In life it seems that the little things get overlooked but at the same time have the biggest difference. This is important in almost all areas of life and especially in business. It is important to pay attention to the small details and if you do that, everything else tends to work out for you. By looking at the example in the medical billing industry, we can see the impact that this can have.
The difference 1 number can make.
Making sure that you have the appropriate billing code can make all the difference in the world. One may ask, “What difference is one little number going to make?” It can make a big difference if we looked at your salary for instance. What if instead of making $60,000 a year, we forgot a zero and you are now making $6,000 a year. That does not make a difference right? Well in medical billing it is important to make sure that the appropriate billing code is being used so that all of the submitted claims get paid in a timely manner and do not get rejected.
Was it really important?
They are important because they make sure that physicians get paid for the services that they render as well as stay in business. The insurance companies need them to make sure that they cover the appropriate amount of the physician’s bill depending on the services that were rendered.
Get it right the first time.
There are a bunch of tools that are available to you so that you can get your medical codes right the first time. There are books available so that you can look up the specific code. However a step above this is that there are medical billing software companies out there that include a claims checker to make sure that you got the code right the first time. This little feature can save you a tremendous amount of time and money. You don’t have to spend the time resubmitting claims and the claims get processed more quickly making a huge difference in your financial dealings.
So by understanding and paying attention to the details of your medical billing codes you will have more money from the claims that would have been rejected and life will be much more pleasant for you.
